Vibrant African Enrichers: Duo Wal, Yangreek Wal, Tut Tut

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 19, 2012

SWAT officers assigned to the Special Response Team, working in conjunction with South Precinct detectives, today arrested 21-year-old Duol Wal, one of four persons wanted for beating, stabbing and robbing two men after abducting them from the parking lot of an Antioch apartment complex early Saturday.

Wal was taken into custody without incident at his 3009 Beechmist Way home and is now being held in lieu of $350,000 bond after being booked this afternoon on charges of especially aggravated kidnapping, especially aggravated robbery and four counts of aggravated rape.

Also arrested in the case today was 15-year-old Tut Tut, who is believed to be Duol Wal’s cousin. He was taken into custody at a Nashville high school and is now confined at juvenile detention on charges of especially aggravated kidnapping, especially aggravated robbery and two counts of aggravated rape.

The aggravated rape charges allege that the suspects forced the victims to perform sex acts on each other at knifepoint while they were being held against their will.

The third suspect in this case has been identified as 18-year-old Yangreek Wal, Duol Wal’s brother. Warrants for his arrest are outstanding and South Precinct detectives have been searching for him since Sunday. There was no sign of him today on Beechmist Way. However, this afternoon’s search of the family home pursuant to a search warrant led to the recovery of property belonging to the victims.

The two victims in this case, both 24, were walking to an apartment in the Hickory Trace complex between 3:30 a.m. and 4 a.m. Saturday when they were approached by two dark skinned young black men who spoke with distinctive African accents. The victims said they could not understand what the two were saying. One of the suspects struck one of the victims, causing his friend to throw a cup of coffee into the suspect’s face. The victims said two more suspects appeared and started beating them. One of suspects then pulled a large knife and forced the victims into a small, dark, older model four-door car.

For approximately the next hour to 75 minutes, the victims were driven to ATM machines in the immediate Hickory Hollow area. They were forced to give the suspects their PIN numbers and money was withdrawn. While the victims were in the car, the suspects continuously beat and stabbed them. Shortly after 5 a.m., the suspects forced the victims to remove their clothing and ordered them out of the vehicle on a remote section of Franklin Limestone Road. After the suspects drove away, the victims walked to a home on Billingsgate Drive from where police and an ambulance were called.

The two victims were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. One was treated and released Saturday. The second was admitted with serious injuries. He was released from the hospital Sunday.

Anyone seeing or knowing the whereabouts of Yangreek Wal is urged to immediately contact the Emergency Communications Center at 862-8600 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward of up to $1,000. Tut Tut, 15, and, Duol Wal, 21, were charged with especially aggravated kidnapping, especially aggravated robbery and aggravated rape.

Police are searching for Wal’s younger brother, 18-year-old Yangreek Wal and an unknown suspect.

Warrants for the younger Wal’s arrest were outstanding and South Precinct detectives have been searching for him since Sunday.

The four men allegedly attacked the two victims, both 24 years old, at the Hickory Trace Apartments in Antioch around 3:30 a.m Saturday.

The victims said they could not understand what the men were saying.

The victims were then beaten by all four men and then forced inside, what was described as a small, dark, older model four-door car.

“The victims in this case were put through unthinkable torture. Not only were they abducted from the apartment complex but they were beaten, they were stabbed as they were ridden around the South Nashville area. The ATM stops lasted about 75 minutes and the victims were said they were left naked on a remote section of Franklin Limestone road.

After the suspects drove away, the victims walked to a home on Billingsgate Drive from where police and an ambulance were called.

The two victims were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. One was treated and released Saturday. The second was admitted with serious injuries and released Sunday.

Police said a search of the Wal family home led to the recovery of property belonging to the victims.
